Soller and Port de Soller, Mallorca

Photos and some info on beautiful Soller from our first trip as a family of 4! For context, my daughter was just 2 and my son was almost 8 weeks old.

This was our first trip away as a family of 4 when Raffy was around 6 weeks old. It was a trip we were actually meant to take as a baby moon with just our daughter late spring before he was born but Covid had other plans so we thankfully pushed our Airbnb back to September {and got a flight voucher, remember those?} and it worked really well as a family trip with a baby. We love Soller and had been there before as a couple pre kids. It’s such a gorgeous part of Mallorca, the orange grove surrounded town is beautiful, you can walk to the beach or jump on the tram and it reminds us of Palm Springs with all the mountains and palms everywhere you look.

Pre kids we would hike to nearby towns - is a must or go for dreamy long lunches at Ca’s Patro March or explore the island. There are stunning beaches near Port de Pollenca, Alcudia and near Palma. But when you’re finding your feet with a 2 year old and a 6 week old and navigating naps, there’s something really nice about just surrendering to a less ambitious break. Especially when our accommodation was stunning and we had a pool to use.

We pretty much did the same thing each day, walk to the beach {if you don’t have a buggy there’s a route that is a lot nicer to hike through woodland to get there}, have a morning on the sand in our favourite spot to the left as you look at the sea, have a little play on one of the playgrounds and wander around Port de Soller then take the tram back {which was such a highlight for my toddler daughter} through the orange groves for afternoon naps by the pool before an evening wander around town for dinner or ice cream. Soller has the most incredible square with a cathedral & with gorgeous shuttered streets to wander. Don’t miss Gelat Soller for the best gelato made from local specialities.

Port De Soller has some beautiful traditional Mallorcan boats and fab restaurants. We had some of the best seafood paellas here.

We stayed in this Airbnb Can Ruega which was absolutely dreamy, an interior heaven, but not overly child friendly, it only had 1 bedroom in the house which we all shared {the kids were in travel cots}. There’s a second bedroom outside the house but that wouldn’t work for a family unless they were older teenagers. I also remember feeling very hot as it didn’t have aircon! But it was a great location to walk to town, very quiet, had a well equipped kitchen and the pool was blissful.

I’d definitely go back to Mallorca and Soller but would stay somewhere else accommodation wise next time. I’ve also heard great things about some of the all inclusive resorts near Alcudia but depends what kind of holiday you’re after.

We hired a car to get from the airport to Soller but actually ended up leaving it parked the whole time we were there as everywhere was walkable. The tram does get a bit expensive if you use it everyday but we love a morning walk so it worked well for us to walk there and then get the tram back when it was hotter.

A few suggestions of places further afield if you don’t have a tiny baby = Port de Pollenca on market day, Deia & Valdemossa are stunning towns, Ecovinyassa is a lush citrus farm that offer tours & light lunches, we did this pre kids and it was amazing. A day trip to Palma which is like a mini Barcelona and don’t miss Portas Vells for some of the best water I’ve ever seen!

  • these are some blog posts I wrote pre kids on our trip there = here and here.
